Alright, so in Part I, I mostly mentioned the bit about acknowledgement. You really cannot change much in your life without first realizing you have a slight (or major) problem. Even G.I. Joe stated that knowing is half the battle, right? So, what is the second principle to understanding how to boost your confidence? I would say it is praying and believing.
Do what you do, but for me I have not made serious and meaningful progress in my life without prayer – lots of prayer. I know people that do, and that’s awesome for them, but that’s not how it has worked for me. And, why not try it out, right? So, this one is quite simple. If you want more confidence in yourself; your abilities; you as a human being – pray for it. And don’t be shy, pray every day for it! And listen.
There have been many times in my life where I am praying for something that just seems so general, and it appears that nothing is really changing. But then, something more exact is pointed out to me and I receive a bit of tailored inspiration. What comes to mind is a more direct question to ask the Lord what to assist me in, and I go for it. It seems that when I act on those promptings received from that still small voice, I get what I was searching for much easier. The Lord can only give us what we ask for, so we must first humble ourselves to realize what we need His help with the most at that time, followed by getting on our knees and asking for the blanket principle we desire to be manifested most in our lives, then listen for what He informs us will serve as a more rewarding question to bring to Him, and finally believe.
Wow, I cannot place enough emphasis on this one. What good are your prayers if you do not believe you can receive the answer you want? Take this concept, for example: confidence. God is an incredibly loving Father who desires so much for His children to see themselves as He sees them. Don’t you think that if we saw ourselves as God did, that we would not struggle with our confidence in the least bit? So, if we pray to Him, and ask for His grace to make up for what we lack, wouldn’t you think He would want to bless us with every bit of confidence He has the capacity to? I certainly think so! But, I also know that we are counseled to have faith. For what good is a prayer without imagining it reaching the heavens?
What good would it serve you if you but mutter words to some imaginable being, and then go about assuming the same things about yourself you did before you asked? You must believe. You must believe that your God is a God of miracles – that He has been, is now, and will be, forever. If He can save nations, calm tempests, and know each and every one of His children more than we can possibly fathom, don’t you think He can help you out with a righteous desire of your heart? I think He can. No. I know He can. But, do not fear, your faith mustn’t be perfect. He does not expect that of you. If you ask Him to boost your confidence, and you allow that seed of faith to grow within you only as much as you have the capacity to, he will multiply the outcome greatly. That is why He is a God of grace, love, and mercy. He knows we lack faith, and that is why He reaches down to pull us up higher.
So, once again, the second step to boosting your confidence (at least in my book) is praying and believing. Great things can happen when those two principles are paired together. Have confidence in Him that He indeed can bless you with what you desire, and then you will have confidence in you.
PS Happy Birthday, Mom 🙂
