Do angels really exist?
This is something I had written up a while back, and would like to share it with you today. I am here to provide some of my own experiences with you, so you may discern for yourself.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
My first experience with angels (or at least known to me in this life) was as a baby. Several times over the past many years, I have heard my mother tell the following story.
It was nap time, and I was in my crib asleep. All of the sudden, my mother heard laughter coming from the room. She knew it was me, and came to check up on what was going on. As soon as she would crack open the door, I was dead silent and sound asleep. Well, of course she closed the door and went her way, until it happened again. She came to stand by the door and listen in. As she stood there the laughing persisted, but when she became too curious to withhold from cracking the door again, the same thing occurred. The laughter would stop, and she could only find a baby sound asleep. She swore there were angels accompanying me in my room that day. Angels I knew in a life before – in the heavens I called home before my birth into mortality.
Fast forward several years, and I was a young girl who didn’t enjoy going to school all the required days. There were many times I would fake feeling sick. I must have been really good at it, because I got away with it a lot. Well, one specific day I can remember lying on the couch in the family room, just watching some TV, and hearing some water spill on the kitchen floor. Something stirred inside of me, and I just knew to get up immediately and walk into the kitchen. As I did so, I beheld my mother standing there, with the most frightened look in her eyes, not breathing, nor even being able to show any hand signs of what was going on, as her mouth gaped open without proper function. I stood there for a quick moment, calm as can be, then placed my arms around her midriff while slowly maneuvering her body to rotate. As her back went to my front I, with the slightest, most skilled gesture, pushed against the perfect spot of her tummy, and her throat was loosened. The pill that she had attempted to take then went down the proper canal. Once the pill was swallowed, she turned around, and looked at me for a brief moment, and then we both embraced each other and sobbed.
I hardly knew what had really happened, for I was so young, but it wasn’t until hearing her description of the look on my face and my flawless, graceful movements, and months of contemplation that I knew, just as well as she did, that an angel had taken over. I didn’t save my mother’s life, an angel did. I was just the willing vessel. Not too long after that occurrence, I realized that my weakness of loving to fake sick to stay home from school had served the purpose it was meant to. I knew the Lord had used my weaknesses to fuel my strengths.
Since then, I went many years without really paying much attention to the angels around me. I believe that was all for my own good, but that seemed to change one night when I needed them again, more than ever.
I was living with my boyfriend in a little apartment in Northern Arizona. After getting off work around 10:30pm one night I started walking home, for I couldn’t get a hold of my boyfriend to come pick me up. But, soon after the commencement of my stroll, I was blessed enough to get a ride home from a kind stranger. When I walked in the house, I found him simply playing video games. I was definitely upset, as he was just selfishly enjoying some hard alcohol and mind-numbing entertainment. My attitude towards him, and his intoxication made for quite the terrifying concoction.
I decided to throw my own little tantrum in our bedroom, and since I too was not living the best sort of life at the time, it resulted with some broken glass on the carpet. Well, obviously the screaming and noises of glasses breaking perturbed him quite a bit. But, it wasn’t until I went out of the room to where he was to scream something at him that I could tell something horrible was about to happen. I saw the look on his face and immediately ran back into the bedroom and shut and locked the door. I was terrified and only thought to sit on the bed and silently pray that I would be okay. Well, I suppose that prayer counted for something.
He entered our bedroom with just one kick to the door, which miraculously did absolutely no damage. How was that possible when it was shut all the way, and locked up? I still wonder. But, he sure laid into me…with his fists. Between the blows, he tugged and pulled me all around, and all I could do was scream “Please stop!!” I knew if I hit back in just the wrong way, it would get much worse. I just kept screaming. I begged and pleaded, but he just kept going. Well, do you recall the broken glass on the ground? I can still remember, clear as day, after one of the times he tossed my body down, I landed just so, right next to one of the biggest, sharpest, pointiest shards of the broken glass – right in front of my eyes. I knew that I had been swiftly redirected on my way down to not cause permanent damage to my right eye. So, who to hold accountable for that miracle besides angels? I know someone was there saving me in some way, for there was a specific plan in my future, and it included sight in both my eyes.
Fast forward many years later, and my life completely turned around. I had a just given birth three months prior to moving her and I up to Orem, Utah. I decided to stop by Salt Lake City to visit my infant’s great grandpa, on her father’s side. He looked frail, but I allowed him to try holding my little girl anyway. He was standing up, as I handed her to him, and he quickly seemed to lose balance. He tried asking me to grab her, but I was constrained. I knew I was just to let the two of them fall, though it was not too easy to just stand there and watch it happen. Strangely enough, I have never seen someone fall so slowly in all my life. He ended up breaking his hip, and my daughter’s head resulted in accruing quite a nasty bruise just to one side of her soft spot. Later, when we visited Great Grandpa in the nursing home, he confirmed that someone was there helping the two of them down – that they were not falling alone, but that there was another who stepped in to help. I knew what He spoke was pure truth.
These are just four brief accounts of some obvious experiences of mine with angels, but I experience little occurrences with them every day. Think about it, there is a definite power out there that is much higher than you and me. It only makes perfect sense. But, can only just one body of power do it all alone? I am sure that is possible, but I strongly believe that my higher power, whom I like to refer to as God, is a wise God who glories in delegation. Of all those who have already passed on, and of all those who are yet to come, why would they not be able to serve a mighty purpose in assisting those of us who are here, right now, trying to accomplish all that we are meant to accomplish on this earth? Once again, it only makes sense to me that I, as well as you, have many of our own personal angels (most likely our ancestors and/or future posterity) stepping in when we need them, in order to help us on our path to serving every purpose of our short time here.
Just over this past year, I have been praying to my God night and day, begging for my angels to orchestrate the right people and situations to come into my life. I have been blessed time and time again with those angels. I have seen their work. Miracles are happening in my life, and I know it is due to the glorious delegation of those angels. I look forward to formerly meeting them someday, and embracing them with all the gratitude in my heart. But, do you think that angels are only beings unseen by men?
I can remember the first time I was referred to as an angel, and how it made me feel. There was a truth to it that stirred inside me, and helped spark a pure and beautiful truth in my life for years to follow. I rejoined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 2010, and I wanted nothing more than to share the good news of the atonement of Jesus Christ with all I possibly could! There was one young woman in particular that came into my life right when I was so incredibly desirous to share the Gospel with all who were struggling as I once had been. I relayed many heartfelt and inspired messages of hope to her. I spent many hours a week with her. I assisted her any time I could. I merely loved her. And then, one day she desired that I accompany her in the bishop’s office, as she tried to properly repent of some things she was ashamed of. I did so, and that resulted in our bishop calling me a ministering angel. I had to think about that many times after hearing it, for I had only ever thought of the term “angel” to be used with spiritual beings without a physical body up until that point. But, some of the definitions of angel include “
So, there truly are angels put on this earth, solely to do His work. It is when we sacrifice our weaknesses at the feet of Christ when we are able to be adopted into His army of angels. There are many seen and unseen angels all around us, we only have to open our eyes. Let me share another example of physical angels in my life.
At the beginning of 2015 I was in one of the toughest spots in my life I have ever faced. I was in desperate need of some angels, and my Father in Heaven knew that. He sent me angel after angel after angel at just the right times with just the right assistance. There was never a doubt in my mind that those specific angels were strategically placed in my life and at the very time they were there for a large reason.
Angels on both sides of the veil have been assisting me ever since that time in the first season of 2015. Even my very own daughter has been one of those special angels dedicated to helping me along on my mission in this life. Her very presence saved me when I needed to be saved. Without her accepting her role in the plan, I would not be where I am today. If that doesn’t sound like an angel I don’t know what does.
Maybe it is easier for some of us to pick out who our seen and unseen angels are, but if I have learned one major life lesson it is that Heavenly Father truly does give to all liberally. If you wish to be granted better sight, so as to behold your own angels, ask and ye shall receive.
